About Us

A women-led NGO building futures where every woman thrives.

Aanyu Initiative Uganda (AIU) is a registered non-governmental organization established in 2022, dedicated to the empowerment and upliftment of women and girls in Uganda. We focus on single mothers, widows, women living with disabilities, and the girl child, advocating for their rights, well-being, and socio-economic empowerment so they can thrive in society.

We believe empowering women and girls is the key to driving sustainable development and achieving gender equality.

Our Mission

To empower and uplift women and girls, particularly single mothers, widows, women living with disabilities, and the girl child, by addressing their unique challenges and providing advocacy, resources, and opportunities to enhance their lives.

Our Vision

A society where women, especially single mothers, widows, women living with disabilities, and girls, have access to opportunities for personal, social, and economic empowerment, leading dignified and independent lives.

Our Core Values

Equality

All women and girls deserve equal access to opportunities and resources.

Empowerment

We support women and girls to make informed choices and live independent lives.

Dignity

We uphold the dignity and rights of every woman and girl, and we leave no one behind.

Inclusivity

We champion women with disabilities, single mothers, widows, and girls in every space.

Collaboration

Real change is collective, so we partner with communities and allies to drive it.

What We Do

We focus on the issues that unlock progress for women and girls.

Each program is co-designed with the communities we serve, so the solutions match the realities on the ground.

Economic Empowerment

Skills training, entrepreneurship programs, and access to microfinance that build sustainable income and financial independence for women and girls.

Advocacy & Legal Support

Policy advocacy and legal aid for inheritance, property rights, and child custody, protecting widows, single mothers, women with disabilities, and the girl child.

Health & Social Support

Access to healthcare, mental health support, SRHR education, counselling, and community groups that build emotional resilience.

Education & Capacity Building

Literacy programs, vocational training, and life skills workshops that remove barriers to education, especially for girls from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Community Awareness & Sensitization

Outreach, dialogues, and campaigns that confront gender-based violence and discrimination, building inclusive communities where women and girls are valued.

Mental Health & Mind Guard Centre

Tailored mental health services, group therapy, and individual counselling, including the dedicated Mind Guard Centre planned under our 2025–2028 strategy.

Our impact in numbers

Real change, measured in lives lifted.

Since 2022 we've worked alongside single mothers, widows, women with disabilities, and girls across Greater Kampala and Eastern Uganda, delivering training, legal aid, education support, and community-wide awareness.

Who We Serve

The women and girls at the heart of our work.

AIU centres four groups whose voices are too often unheard. Every program is shaped around their realities and aspirations.

Single Mothers

Single Mothers

Often facing economic instability and stigma, single mothers receive livelihood training, financial literacy, and parenting support to provide for their families with dignity.

Widows

Widows

Many widows lose property and rights after loss. We provide legal aid for inheritance and land rights, plus counselling and economic recovery support.

Women Living with Disabilities

Women Living with Disabilities

Confronting discrimination and limited access to services, women with disabilities receive accessible training, advocacy, and inclusive community support groups.

The Girl Child

The Girl Child

Girls, especially those out of school, in early marriages, or facing GBV, receive education, mentorship, SRHR information, and protection from harmful practices.
